Ashley Thao, MSW, LCSWA - Therapist
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate who brings warmth, creativity, and cultural depth into my therapeutic work. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work from The University of North Carolina and my Master of Social Work from North Carolina State University, where I developed a strong foundation in evidence-based, client-centered care.
As a Hmong clinician, I deeply value the role of culture, identity, and heritage in the healing process. I intentionally incorporate my lived experience and cultural understanding into my practice, honoring each client’s background, family system, traditions, and belief systems. I believe healing does not occur in isolation, and I work collaboratively with clients to explore how culture, generational experiences, and personal narratives shape emotional well-being.
I have experience working in school systems, immigration and refugee support, and mental health settings, which allows me to support clients through a wide range of life transitions and challenges. I have worked with children ages 5–12, adolescents, and adults, and I strive to meet clients where they are—developmentally, emotionally, and culturally.
I integrate art therapy as a meaningful tool for expression, self-discovery, and healing, especially for those who may find it difficult to put their experiences into words. I believe in a holistic approach to therapy and overall well-being, recognizing the connection between mind, body, emotions, and environment. My work emphasizes balance, creativity, resilience, and empowerment.
I am trained in evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and I tailor each session to meet the unique needs and strengths of each client. I am dedicated to providing compassionate, affirming, and effective care, and I work to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive space where clients feel seen, heard, and valued.
Seeing positive change in my clients’ lives is my greatest motivation. I am deeply passionate about helping individuals feel motivated, empowered, and supported as they navigate life’s challenges and move toward healing, growth, and wholeness.
